Wild Rice Recovery 2017
In autumn 2017, in collaboration with Ray Reitze and the folks at Primitive Skills School in Augusta, Maine, we were able to begin fulfilling the dream of recovering local wild rice as part of the Indigenous food system. The folks at Primitive Skills School had already harvested wild rice when we met them in September and they invited us to participate in a day long workshop processing the harvested grain. These photos document the many steps from drying to parching to stomping to winnowing, to the final reward of beautiful and delicious wild rice. We send out our thanks to everyone who helped make this wonderful day possible!
